Welcome
Criminology Intervention is a 3-year intensive professional program training students in an interdisciplinary curriculum of study in law, psychology, social work and criminology. Students will develop professional skills and will acquire practical field experience.
This program can be a good stepping stone to many University programs such as Social Work, Law, Criminology, Sociology, etc.
Is this program right for you?
When accepted in Criminology Intervention, you will be trained to work in some of the following fields: Centres Jeunesse (child care worker), drug rehabilitation centers (counselor), prisons & penitentiaries (correctional officer), women shelters (counselor), schools (behavioural technician), etc.
Before applying to this program, ask yourself the following questions:
How comfortable are you participating in scenarios where you conduct an interview with someone about a specific issue?
How comfortable are you participating in scenarios where you will have to help and calm down someone who is having a crisis?
How comfortable are you learning about subjects such as sexual assault, murder, child abuse, suicide, spousal abuse, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, pedophilia, organized crime, Youth Protection, drugs, etc.?

Louise has a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology with a specialty in Family Life Education (program design and facilitation) from McGill University, and a BA double major in Psychology and Human Relations from Concordia University. She worked for the Correctional Service of Canada for over 18 years, most of which was spent giving cognitive behavioral treatment programs - she is a specialist in violence prevention (anger and emotions management).
Chenier, François

During his 33 year career as a police officer in Montreal, François worked for 21 years with young delinquents and youths in difficulty and as criminal investigator and homicide detective. He also worked closely with Youth & Family centers and community organizations involved with youths. He completed a B.A. in Political Science at Concordia University and 2 years of law at McGill University. He also served as member and president of the board of directors of Verdun Hospital. From 1987 to 2008 he was a member of the Commission des droits de la jeunesse and the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse.

Anne-Marie started teaching at John Abbott in 2005 part-time and full-time in 2013. She worked as an analyst for the RCMP's Intelligence and Analysis Section for 9 years. Prior to that, she worked for Youth Protection as a Human Relations Agent for five years and as an educator for 1 1/2 years. Anne-Marie has a Master's degree in Criminology as well as a Master's degree in College Education.
Marakakis, Efrosini

Efrosini holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice, with a concentration in Psychology, from Carleton University. She has worked as a criminologist and has over 20 years of experience in the field, having worked primarily with adult male offenders in both provincial and federal jurisdictions. Her work focused on rehabilitation, reintegration into society, and assessing and managing the level of risk individuals may pose to the community. Throughout her career, she also mentored many professionals entering the field.
Efrosini has been teaching at John Abbott College since 2024.
Mitchell, Barbara

Barbara received a Master's degree in Social Work from McGill University in 1992. She has worked at child protection and children's mental health agencies in both Quebec and Ontario as well as working privately in the areas of family counselling and child custody. Barbara has been teaching at John Abbott college since 2005.
Mullaly, Kelly

Kelly holds a Master's degree in Education from the University of Ottawa, an Honours Bachelor of Social Work from Western University, and a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology from Concordia University. Over the past 20 years, she has worked across the education, healthcare, and community correctional settings. Her areas of professional expertise include crisis intervention, mental health and addictions counselling, risk assessment, and community reintegration support. More recently, her work within the CEGEP sector has focused on accessibility services, learning strategies, and the analysis of student retention and success indicators.
Kelly has been teaching at John Abbott College since 2024.
Secours, Kevin

Kevin Secours B.Ed. has 45 years of experience in the martial arts and is the holder of five black belts, including an 8th dan in Jujitsu. He has extensive operational experience in high-risk environments and is an internationally renowned instructor who has taught in 25 countries, creating curricula for law enforcement, military, and private institutions.
