Pittella, Carlos
Carlos (he/him) is a Latinx poet & a member of JAC’s Department of English since 2024. He loves teaching poetry, creative writing, & any form of bordercrossing lit. Born in Rio de Janeiro, he lives in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. His writing is haunted by borders, having appeared in footnotes after Lorca (above/ground, 2024) & received a Frontier 2022 Global Poetry Prize.
He holds a Doctorate in Literary Studies from PUC-Rio, with a thesis on the trilingual sonnets of Fernando Pessoa. As a postdoc at Brown University & the University of Lisbon, he prepared several editions of Pessoa’s work, including Fausto (Tinta-da-China, 2018). During the pandemic, he returned to school for an M.A. in English/Creative Writing at Concordia, where he co-edited Headlight with the team who won the 2023 Forces AVENIR award.
